Every parent of a toddler has heard the question numerous times: Why? Yet the parent, influenced by modern society, often reinterprets such question as: How? And the answer that follows range from a mechanistic explanation of what is asked to the oft-employed: because I said so. Either way, such answers only elicit another identical follow-up question: But, why?
Science fares no better than such a parent because it is shackled by the almighty scientific method which must work with observed—and repeatable!—facts. Scientists are trained to look for causation when attempting to explain why certain phenomena exists and end up proposing theories of how it came about. On the other hand, philosophy—particularly metaphysics—may pierce through the facts and offer explanations that, while rooted on flawless reasoning, take into account knowledge derived from sources other than the scientific method.
This blog is my attempt to answer the most profound whys I ever asked as either a toddler or an adult. Much of its content is distilled from publications of people much smarter than me, notably the many books of the late philosopher, astrologer and occultist Dane Rudhyar (1895–1985) and those of the mathematician and Nobel laureate Sir Roger Penrose (1931–). Of course, many more contributions will be acknowledged as needed.
Philosophy of Wholeness tries to present a comprehensive metaphysical theory of reality with implications in the physical sciences, from cosmology to quantum mechanics, evolutionary biology, psychology, sociology, and other disciplines. It relies on scientific facts but goes beyond such facts to provide a rational foundation for the collection of experiences we call life. Concordant with my way of thinking, Rudhyar’s philosophy builds a coherent viewpoint of reality from a few well-defined assumptions, which I will make sure to point out. After all, even science has its own set of assumptions, some unstated, like the permanence of method which implies that the same initial state will produce the same result regardless of time and space considerations.
I will use the blog’s categories to give an idea of each article’s emphasis, one of them being Wholeness, to present the philosophy itself. This last chapter of my personal quest began by writing bimonthly messages over WhatsApp to talk about the astrology of each new and full moon phase of the lunar month, so another category will be Astrology, for it is the best symbolic language to discuss the psychological impacts of Wholeness on humanity, using many concepts of Carl Jung’s Analytical Psychology. Other categories will likely be introduced as I present the implications on other sciences and disciplines, and I will also make use of the blog’s tags. The goal is to guide the reader into or away from specific topics.
Welcome to a blog that will ask ceaselessly: Why?
