Relationships Season

As we saw in the last article, the September equinox arrived just a few hours after we had a solar eclipse in the last degree of Virgo, the last eclipse of the 2025 season. Astronomically speaking, the equinoxes are moments in time when the daytime and the nighttime are of equal length. In terms of evolutionary astrology, the equinoxes represent key inflection points in our yearly path through the zodiac, as we will see shortly. In addition to talking about the second half of the astrological year, I will briefly analyze the full moon in Aries which will bring a strong Mercury in the first degree of Scorpio forming a square with Pluto. Finally, we will take a look at the Last Quarter phase which will practically coincide with the entrance of Venus in Libra, a sign it rules, forming a powerful Kite with the Minor Grand Trine of the transpersonal planets.

Holism and Wholeness

We generally agree with Jan Smuts’s definition of evolution: “the gradual development and stratification of a progressive series of wholes.” In his 1926 book, Holism and Evolution, Smuts proposed that a creative, synthetic and organizing force is the fundamental driver of evolution. Such a force, he posited, operates under the principle of holism to structure matter into organized wholes of increased complexity, culminating in the development of a personality: a fully-integrated human being. At roughly the same time, Carl Jung used the same word, personality, to mean the psyche of a person who underwent the lifelong process of individuation by which at least some aspects of his personal and collective unconsciouses are integrated within his conscious mind.

Influenced by these two men, Dane Rudhyar titled his 1936 book: The Astrology of Personality. In it, he formalized the concept of a whole as an integrated field of activity, borrowing the concept of field from physics which studies magnetic or gravitational fields, among others. Rudhyar also recognized the existence of wholes beyond individual-wholes (Smuts’s “personalities”), namely, holistic groupings of individuals that he called culture-wholes and which are formed by the interrelatedness of their members. Rudhyar also expanded the principle of holism to that of wholeness, which includes not only the structural aspects of a whole but also its rhythmic relationship with other wholes. What he then called a personality is not only an individual-whole but also an integrated member of a culture-whole.

Sun as Integrator

The integration of both types of wholes is impulsed by forces operating under the principle of wholeness and symbolized by Sun, whose apparent orbit, the ecliptic, defines the zodiac. Due to the ecliptic’s 23.5° tilt with respect to the celestial equator (the projection of Earth’s equator), the lengths of daytime and nighttime change throughout the year but are exactly equal at the equinoxes. After the March equinox, daytime grows longer than the shrinking nighttime until it reaches a maximum at the Cancer solstice. Afterwards, daytime begins to shrink with nighttime growing until they are of equal length once again at the September equinox. Conversely, nighttime is longer than daytime between the September equinox and the next March one, similarly reaching a maximum length at the Capricorn solstice. Using these facts, Rudhyar spoke of the Day Force whose strength is proportional to daytime and of the corresponding Night Force proportional to nighttime.

Under this symbolism, each zodiacal sign becomes a blend of the Day and Night forces commensurate to the relative daytime and nighttime lengths, with the Day Force impulsing a person’s individuality, that is, his integration as an individual-whole, and the Night Force doing the same for a person’s relatedness, with which he integrates as a member of a culture-whole. Thus, Sun began to impulse the integration of culture-wholes since September 22, when it entered the sign of Libra at the equinox. In terms of evolutionary astrology, taking evolution as a process of whole-integration, the solar energies are currently available to relate with one another as individuals so as to build stronger communities, starting with one-on-one relationships in Libra.

Full Moon in Aries

As we have seen numerous times, a full moon is a time of revelation when the results of realizing as much of the new-moon potentiality as possible are shown prominently. The opposition of Sun and Moon tries to make us aware of their sign polarity which in this case will be Libra and Aries, the first signs after an equinox and the rawest expressions of their respective force. Sun in Libra is ready to embrace personal relationships founded on a value system conditioned by the dictates of society, at least initially. Sitting right across Sun, Moon will defend each individual’s rights, which could either lead to a confrontation or to beautiful cooperation. At the mundane level, the polarity is expressed as diplomacy between nations versus the individual’s right to sovereign action.

The full moon will occur on October 6 at 8:47 p.m. in California, 9:47 p.m. in Mexico City, or on October 7 at 5:47 a.m. in Central Europe. Sun will be at Libra 14°08′ and Moon at Aries 14°08′ as shown in the following chart:

Deep Observation, No Secrets

When found in a natal chart, Mercury in Scorpio often indicates the mind of a researcher or a detective, someone who is able to delve into the depths of a situation and enjoys it. In mundane astrology, Mercury in Scorpio may signal that sensitive information will be leaked. Not only will Mercury be at Scorpio 0°42′ at the time of the full moon, it will also form a square with Pluto (Aquarius 1°23′), Scorpio’s ruler, that will be exact about twelve hours later. The square of Pluto and Mercury is always an indication that secrets will come to light, but more so when we take into account that Pluto is out of bounds and moving at just 20% its average speed. Given the revelatory nature of a full moon, we may be privy to previously unknown information next week.

Pluto has been in the second degree of Aquarius since the first new moon in Virgo (August 22 or 23) and will remain in that degree until the full moon in Gemini on December 4. The Sabian symbol of Aquarius 2 has the image of an unexpected thunderstorm and you may recall that Diana Roche interpreted it as the probability of the improbable. To top it all, Pluto will be out of bounds during its entire stay in that degree!

Sabian Symbols

The symbol for Libra 15 (Sun) has the image: “Circular paths”, expanded as coming to terms with the inevitability of establishing steady rhythms of social activity. It may point to one of two meanings: either Boredom, if life has become simply repetitive, or Transpersonal Peace, if one attunes to the cyclic rhythms of the universe. In contrast, the symbol for Aries 15 (Moon) is: “An Indian weaving a ceremonial blanket”, explained as projecting into everyday living the realization of wholeness and fulfillment. Its key phrase is: Fulfillment of Desire.

These symbols must be taken in context with the new-moon symbol which spoke of the total concentration required to reach a spiritual goal. Sun is telling us that the path will not be a straight line but a helical one, advancing at times and seemingly going backwards at others. Should we be able to hold firm in our convictions, eventually we will be able to wear the ceremonial blanket of completion. In these times of chaos around us, perseverance is what will get us through.

Last Quarter Phase

Whereas the full moon is bound to be revelatory, the following days will bring many energies to help us understand what was revealed. As a result, the lunation’s crisis of consciousness, the Last Quarter phase, has a most interesting chart, as we will see shortly. The closing square between Sun at Libra 20°40′ and Moon at Cancer 20°40′ will occur on October 13 at 11:13 a.m. in California, 12:13 p.m. in Mexico City, or 8:13 p.m. in Central Europe.

There is a lot in the chart to unpack but let’s focus on its main features. Just three hours after the Last Quarter, Venus (Virgo 29°50′) will enter Libra to form an opposition with Neptune (Aries 0°13′) and a Grand Trine with Uranus (Gemini 0°54′) and Pluto (Aquarius 1°22′), thus completing a Kite. Pluto is shown stationary in the chart, moving retrograde at only 1% of its average speed, and it will begin to move direct eight hours later; still out of bounds.

Three other important aspects worth mentioning are: the conjunction of Moon and Jupiter (Cancer 23°49′), exact five hours later; the powerful conjunction of Mercury (Scorpio 10°19′) and Mars (Scorpio 14°38′) that will be exact on the 20th; and the trine of Jupiter and Saturn (Pisces 26°50′).1 Finally, there is also a Grand Trine formed by Moon, Mars, and the North Node (Pisces 17°55′). Although Grand Trines are mostly passive configurations, this one is energized by the Sun–Moon square. Involving the North Node, we can expect opportunities and events with strong action based on emotions.

Relationship Awareness

Popular astrology tells us that Venus is the planet of earthly love, impulsing romance and intimate relationships. While the processes or Venus are not quite as simple, the combination of Venus in its sign of Libra does foster personal relationships based on common affinities and love. As we saw earlier, Libra is the sign where the newly-prevalent Night Force ushers us to relate with others. In the full-moon chart, Venus is forming oppositions to Saturn and the North Node which together imply opportunities to become aware of how serious or frivolous our relationships are, especially when we consider that Venus will be transiting through the critical sign of Virgo.

In the subsequent days, as Venus approaches Libra and forms the Kite, other energies will appear. The opposition with Neptune could make us idealize a relationship and this effect would be amplified by the sextile with Jupiter and made emotional by Moon. On the other hand, the trines with Uranus and Pluto will make us wish for transformative newness in our relationships. It is worth noting that Venus is also linked to our personal finances, in which case we should be aware that the aspects with Uranus and Neptune might signal delusion about a new investment, in particular be aware of crypto-based scams.

Possible Threats

After the full moon, Mercury will move away from the square it formed with Pluto but secrets will continue to be divulged; after all, it is moving through Scorpio. Not only that, it will be inching closer to a conjunction with Mars, which often brings heated arguments. The problem is that Mars makes it difficult to listen to a different point of view, which will be made worse around the Last Quarter by the trine formed with a highly-energetic and emotional Moon. Given that the exact conjunction will occur shortly before the October 21 new moon in Libra, we should try to refrain from needless squabbles for the next two weeks.

Wrapping Up…

The evolutionary energies will be focus on relationships between now and the end of the astrological year. That doesn’t mean that we cannot work on our own integration as an individual, but that our relatedness will have a prominent place.

The full moon in Aries is a moment when we can be aware of any tension between our personal relationships and our individuality. This time, Venus will join the fray to provide a critical evaluation of their purpose as well as whether they have the right mix of newness and idealism.

Always Love. 🌹🙏💖

Notes

  1. Interestingly, the trine of Jupiter and Saturn will not be exact this time around even though Jupiter will reach Cancer 25°09′ on November 11 before turning retrograde and Saturn will reach Pisces 25°09′ on November 28 before turning direct. However, the trine will not be exact until August 31, 2026, having Jupiter in Leo and Saturn in Aries. ↩︎
