The new moon at Aquarius 20°41′ will be with us this Friday, February 9th, at 2:59 PM in California, 16:59 hours in Mexico City, or 23:59 hours, just before midnight, in Santander. It begins a lunation when we will feel the energies of Aquarius at a personal level since each of Mercury, Moon, Mars and Venus, in that order, will enter the sign and form a perfect conjunction with Pluto.
I have mentioned that, even though Uranus rules the sign, it will be managed by Pluto, the planet of transformative power, for the next twenty years. Aquarius is the sign of liberation of societal power, which Pluto will aim at the necessary transformation of humanity so we can finally enter the Age of Aquarius. While Pluto is in Aquarius, and especially through 2030 while it is part of the Minor Grand Trine with Uranus and Neptune, the sign will act as a curious blend of Scorpio and Aquarius, the two signs which liberate the power of relatedness (Night Force).
Setting the Stage
Since January 30th, when Uranus changed direction, all planets are moving direct, which implies an externalization of the enormous energy we are receiving. This will continue until Mercury goes retrograde in April, followed by Pluto in May so it may reenter once more Capricorn on Sept 1st. And the energy has indeed been enormous, in the 36 hours after Pluto entered Aquarius, the sun produced twelve M-class flares, the second highest class on an exponential scale. For comparison there were zero in 2018.
Mercury entered Aquarius on February 5th, when I am writing this. In Capricorn it describes the structures, writes down the rules, publishes and reads the manuals. Its dark side is the State or religious propaganda. That all changes when Mercury enters Aquarius, and more so with Pluto at the Aquarian gates, given that it has been described as “the most air of the air signs”. Air is transparent and Aquarius demands truth. Mercury will oblige, it will tell us truths and even the ideologies behind those “truths”. It has no choice for Pluto is right there! Pluto disrobes and a naked Mercury tells it all. It will even admit that information, his own domain, has been corrupted for trying to mask over the realities of the elites. There may be truths around science and technology in the next couple of weeks but recall that this is the seed for this lunation, and more, as we will see shortly.
Our emotions will be similarly naked when Moon enters Aquarius on Thursday, just after her conjunction with Mars (same day) and the day before the new moon. Astrologers tell us that in Aquarius is where Moon feels the least protected, which is a very big deal for Moon, and more so after being symbolically disrobed by Pluto. On the 13th, Mars will enter and the immediate conjunction with Pluto will bring a global desire for power that could be manifested with massive violence. And Venus will make her entrance on the 16th in conjunction with Mars.
Given that Sun entered Aquarius with Pluto, every personal planet will have gone through a Pluto conjunction right when entering the sign. This will give us a personal feeling of what Pluto in Aquarius will mean to each of us. Mercury will communicate about it, Moon will help us feel it, Mars deal with it, and Venus revalue it. Just stay in the present and let the energies come to you. Obviously, all of this will be felt very strongly by anyone with planets or angles near Aquarius 0⁰ or Leo 0⁰, say 2°–3°, or to some extent near Taurus 0⁰ or Scorpio 0⁰.
Salient Features
If we look at the chart, all the action happens within the trine formed by Venus (Capricorn 21°42′) and Uranus (Taurus 19°10′). Venus also forms a conjunction with Mars (Capricorn 27°28′) that will be exact on February 22nd at Aquarius 7°. This is always an important conjunction aligning our global needs and desires, but it acquires more significance for this lunation cycle due to two key aspects: powerful squares to the Nodal axis and Chiron, and sextiles to Neptune (Pisces 26°03′). All that plus Mars already forming an out-of-sign conjunction with Pluto (Aquarius 0°38′), four days before being exact at Aquarius 1°. On the other side of the trine, Uranus forms a square with the new moon and semi-sextiles (30°) with the North Node (Aries 17°09′) and Chiron (Aries 16°21′), a minor but creative aspect, especially between two signs of the same operative coupling, like Aries and Taurus.
I want to reiterate the importance of having Chiron conjunct the North Node, in terms of healing energy. The North Node determines the mode by which we (and humanity) interact with what could be called “life experiences of the evolutionary kind”. In Aries, it is asking us to meet them head on, assertively, relying on our collective value system: South Node in Libra. For the moment this is interpreted worldwide as war, and aspects to the Nodal axis are reflected there, producing an ebb and flow of action. In Aries, Chiron tries to display the hurt and heal issues related to selfhood which, at the deepest level refer to self-existence. Globally, we have two wars questioning “nation existence” and Chiron is showing us the pain so we can go beyond and heal. Quite a conjunction! And, it will be exact on February 19th at Aries 16°45′. On a personal level, the conjunction is asking us to act decisively, holding our own, regardless of the difficulty we may have in asserting ourselves.
The new moon will also have energy for big, expansive and constructive thinking from the square formed between Mercury (Aquarius 7°26′) and Jupiter (Taurus 8°19′), as well as the sextile between Jupiter and Saturn (Pisces 7°29′).
First New Moon
The upcoming new moon will be the first in Aquarius since Pluto entered the sign and every new process begins with a new moon phase. That is why astrologers often consult the prior new moon of an event, such as the birth of a child. The event happens within a particular phase of a lunation cycle, like First Quarter, which must be referred back to its beginnings to be fully understood. A while back, before this blog, I wrote about the lunation cycle and its eight phases. What I didn’t do was to give a broad psychological profile to people born at a particular phase, which is tied to the Part of Fortune. I’ll work on a page with that information, and will include a few words about the new moon before birth.
Remember that Moon will be distributing the solar energy obtained from Sun, modified by the planets and aspects at the new moon, as she makes her way through the zodiac wheel forming conjunctions and other aspects with all the other celestial bodies (and angles) throughout the month. The lunation cycle that is about to begin, when taken as a whole, is the seed for the next twenty years: threshold of the Age of Aquarius. All of which makes it a very important seed for our evolutionary journey. The out-of-sign sextile between Pluto in Aquarius and Neptune in Pisces forces us to look at the negative aspects of their opposing signs. The tribalism of Leo and Virgo must give way to the humanity-as-a-whole of Aquarius and Pisces.
At the time of the new moon, there will be four planets in Aquarius, with two more to enter in the following week. It is fair to classify this February as one of the most Aquarian in recent memory. Uranus is in Taurus where it is often linked to “natural disasters”, particularly when it shifts to direct motion as it did on January 30th. The recent earthquakes in China and Chiapas (Mexico), fires in Chile and rainstorms in Southern California are but a few examples made more evident by the square formed between Sun and Uranus. We can see in the new-moon chart the square formed between the Sun–Moon conjunction and Uranus at Taurus 19⁰10′.
Sabian Symbol
The symbol for Aquarius 21⁰ has the image: “A disappointed and disillusioned woman courageously faces a seemingly empty life”, further explained as the capacity to meet emotionally upsetting experiences in human relationships with strength of character and personal integrity. Its keyword is: Resilience.
This is a fairly straightforward symbol. The woman in the image is presumably having a crisis of relationship and, while all of us have the inner strength to pull through and learn from such emotional crises, such faculty requires to be developed. This is the first symbol of the emotional-cultural level of the Management scene (Aquarius 16⁰–30⁰), and as such it sets the “thesis” for the level: we must learn to face emotional adversity. These times call for us to be assertive, as we saw earlier, and this lunar month will impart resilience to all areas of our life, as Moon travels through our charts.
Discussion
Einstein was correct in saying that time is relative, although he didn’t pierce through that fact to understand why, and later fell in love with geometry. Time is relative because it is cyclic, where a cycle is a “time whole” with beginning, middle and end, which determine its duration. In our holistic philosophy, a cycle begins with an infusion of energy and what science calls “initial conditions”, which we define as a desired goal and a seed of potentialities to be actualized as needed so as to achieve the goal. Together, the energy and initial condition constitute the alpha phase of the cycle, where the process of attempting to attain the goal begins. For the case of a process as complex as a human life, we attempt to understand the initial conditions, both goal and potentialities, from the birth chart.
The transit of Pluto through Aquarius is the threshold of the Age of Aquarius, which calls for a humanity operating at a higher level of consciousness and true democratic values. Clearly we are not there but we are starting the process of crossing the threshold. Any process must begin with a new moon, and this is the one: the first new moon after Pluto has moved on to Aquarius, and while still at Aquarius 1°. The entire lunation will serve as a microcosm of what the process of elevating our collective consciousness will be, and it all begins this Friday.
I mentioned earlier that Moon will be particularly vulnerable after the conjunction with Pluto that happened in Aquarius, no less. Millán said the new moon would “show us the collective emotions” but new moons don’t “show”, they instead “carry and disseminate” through the month, perhaps with a big display at the full moon. That said, I agree with the basic premise: the collective emotions about what is happening will be heard, or at least screamed, loud and clear during this lunation. The collapse of the old paradigms will continue to be collectively sensed and Moon will carry those emotions to the corners of the world and in the depths of our beings. More importantly, we will begin to realize the power we have collectively as co-creators.
Wrapping Up…
With Uranus finally moving direct, and indeed with all planets moving forward in space, life seems to arrive at incredible speed, aided in part by the North Node in Aries. The lunation will make not only events seem chaotic but emotions will also run rampantly. However, along with the awareness of such emotions, Moon will be spreading resilience.
We must remain an “island of coherence” amidst the chaos. The Nobel laureate Ilya Prigogine proposed a theory to explain how a highly chaotic system may develop order spontaneously around such “islands”. This is probably related to the integrating Principle of Wholeness acting upon such system. Regardless of the reason, we can observe in sociology that, in a chaotic situation, people gravitate to calm persons.
The new moon has plenty of potentiality in its symbology, I would encourage all of you to have a meditation where you state an intention for the upcoming lunar month. If you know where Aquarius 21° falls in your chart, the intention should take into account the house where the new moon occurs. Otherwise, stay within the Aquarius symbology.
Always Love. 🌹🙏💖
