The full moon in the Cancer–Capricorn axis will occur on December 26th, the day after Christmas, in California (4:33 PM) or Mexico City (18:33 hours), but on December 27th in Santander (01:33 hours), which I will include now that I have family there. The exact Sun–Moon opposition will fall in the fifth degree of the axis, at 4⁰58′ to be precise.
When we talked about the new moon of this cycle, I mentioned that 2023 felt as if trying to go on a trip amid such chaos that even reaching the runway became a major task. By that analogy, this final full moon of the year represents standing at the end of the runway ready to accelerate. There is a lot of power, like the conjunction formed between Mercury and Mars, but able to be used productively, as evidenced by the six sextiles and three trines in the chart.
The end result is relative calm in time for the holidays. Speaking of which, on Christmas Day, just prior to the full moon, Venus at Scorpio 24⁰59′ will form an exact trine with Neptune in Pisces. This is a lovely aspect that will make available the best energies of those Water signs to fuel our relationships with deep universal love. Furthermore, just a few hours after the full moon, the trine between Sun and Jupiter will also be exact, a combination that may bring joy to the world, quite literally. Open your minds, breathe through the heart, and let it all in.
Winter Solstice

Before jumping to the new moon, let’s take a quick look at the chart for the winter solstice, when Sun is at the top of the Aries chart, at Capricorn 0°. I am hoping to publish this write-up before then, which is December 21st at 21:27 hours in Mexico City.
I want to call your keen astrological attention to the following:
- The exact trine between Sun and Moon at Taurus 0°21′.
- The Minor Grand Trine configuration with that trine and the sextiles formed by Sun and Moon with Saturn at Pisces 2°26′ (in green).
- If we take the Venus–Uranus opposition as the “full moon” phase in their own cycle, which correlates with innovation in relatedness, every other planet is in the half of acquiring consciousness, between Venus and Uranus.
- Within a day or so, Mercury will exit Capricorn on its way back to Sagittarius, while Sun enters Capricorn, crossing paths.
The winter solstice marks a new beginning from the point of view of the Day Force, so its chart is a seed for the best individual we will be when the next summer solstice comes around. Who do we want to become in 2024? At the solstice, the Night Force is at its maximum, providing Saturn in Pisces with the necessary energy to structure and give form to our collective dreams: the new civilization we are co-creating. The Minor Grand Trine makes that energy available to each and every one of us in our most personal space: the Sun–Moon lunation which is at the creative trine aspect and just a few days later will be at the full-moon phase. It all begins with our relatedness, we will have energy and opportunities to form new relationships and innovate existing ones.
Mercury and Mars Conjunction
Mercury in Capricorn is a serious one and it has been retrograde since the new moon in Sagittarius. Capricorn refers to long-term projects so having Mercury retrograde is a good time to work on those we haven’t finished. As mentioned earlier, it will reenter Sagittarius which would allow for a quick reformulation of such projects. Mercury will revert to direct motion on January 2nd, signaling the time for action which will become serious once more on the 13th, when it reenters Capricorn.
Back to the full-moon chart, Mercury (25°19′) and Mars (23°38′) will form a conjunction in Sagittarius, which is not a combination that will keep many secrets. Aspects and configurations during a full moon may bring out actual events, at least much more than new-moon ones, so expect information about events that are Martian in nature. That said, both form squares with Neptune in Pisces, which may bring confusion and perhaps a desire to jump to conclusions with partial (or fake) information. It may actually signal an opportunity for us to remain silent at holiday celebrations.
Solstitial Full Moon
The winter Cancer–Capricorn full moon, with Moon in its sign, is always strong. Sun in Capricorn represents the authority of a father figure while Moon in Cancer is the prototypical nurturing mother. As such, they may be highly complementary but there is little room for frivolities. It bears noting that all non-personal planets are on the side of the Sun–Moon opposition with signs that see the growth of the individuality impulsed by the Day Force. The personal planets, and Mars in particular, will form conjunctions with all social and transpersonal ones for a comprehensive growth next year.
Looking at the full-moon chart, we see that Pluto will be in the anaretic final degree of Capricorn, a degree that often increases the sign’s intensity, for which it is called the degree of fate. Being the planet of power, Pluto will likely empower the status quo in society but it is also a planet that favors big transformations, so it will continue to expose their true nature. As a result, the aptly-named plutocracies will end up stronger but more naked.
Trapeze Configuration
At the time of the full moon, we find two Minor Grand Trines formed with Saturn and Jupiter: one with each of Sun and Moon. You may be able to see the figure of a trapeze where the Sun–Moon opposition is the larger base, the only side of the figure in red, and the Jupiter–Saturn sextile the small one. Such a configuration of four planets with three sextiles and two trines may only generate energy within the context of a struggle, typically introduced by the opposition. Due to the signs and planets involved, the configuration gives out an aura of somber quietness.
Like most planets, Sun in Capricorn is a serious one and the sextile with Saturn in Pisces (2°49′) reinforces such energy. Capricorn is the sign that must manage the large collectivities created by Sagittarius, which are in need of structure and organization. This process will generate a lot of energy that Aquarius may focus as the power of cultures that can affect the individual who, in reality, is not that important to Capricorn. Even though the trine between Sun and Jupiter could expand the ambitions of Capricorn, we are talking about Jupiter in Taurus (5°37′) not Virgo, thus seeking a somewhat stable expansion. The trine between Moon and Saturn serves to reinforce the overall seriousness.
Chiron in Aries
A few months ago, I spoke about Chiron, the centaur that heals our deepest wounds which, of course, must first expose. The position of Chiron in a natal chart reflects that for which we are insecure and perhaps hypersensitive, but which will bring tremendous growth once it is overcome. In a lunation chart, Chiron refers to collective wounds and it will be stationary at Aries 16° (15°27′) when the full moon rolls around.
Chiron in Aries is a subconscious insecurity towards being, and may go as far as questioning our right to exist which, psychologically speaking, may express itself as a victim complex. People born between February 1969 and March 1977 have Chiron in Aries in their natal charts, but remember that Chiron is both poison and antidote. Being stationary in the upcoming full moon brings the healing meaning of the degree, and the symbol for Aries 16° refers to the process of “becoming like a little child” and listen to our intuition.
Sabian Symbols
The symbol for Capricorn 5° (Sun) reads: “Indians on the warpath. While some men row a well-filled canoe, others in it perform a war dance”, further explained as the mobilization of physical and emotional energies in a spirit of conquest. Its keyword is: Aggressiveness. Meanwhile, Cancer 5° (Moon) has the image: “At a railroad crossing, an automobile is wrecked by a train”, expanded as the tragic results which are likely to occur when the individual’s will pits itself carelessly against the power of the collective will of society. Its key phrase is: Karmic Readjustment.
The Sun symbol speaks of individuals committed to the expansion of their collectivity, perhaps a tribe or nation, being anonymous representatives of it and yet willing to die for such collectivity. The Moon symbol agrees, for the automobile is a symbol of individual freedom and the train is one of collective progress. In both symbols the needs and desires of the collective trump those of the individual.
We took the new-moon symbol of a boy and his dog wearing borrowed eyeglasses to mean that we should visualize, during the lunation cycle, the civilization we are co-creating with Nature and each other. Next, the solstice makes available energies so we can visualize ourselves in that civilization, in other words, the seed of our individual growth for the next six months is asking us to imagine the kind of individual we propose to be in the co-created new civilization. The full-moon symbols ask us to be as conscious as possible of ego-driven individualism when reflecting on those issues.
Wrapping Up…
As Pam Gregory is fond of saying: everything is frequency. We create our reality from our frequency, it energizes the synchronicities that attract people and events which resonate with our needs and desires. Indeed, our mind makes us more powerful than we can imagine and, slowly but surely, our reality becomes the mirror of what our mind created while tuned to our frequency. We don’t rush to wipe our frown off the mirror, we go within ourselves and smile if we want a different reflection.
The reality around us is a reflection of the aggregate of each individual’s reality, this is how our personal frequency affects those around us, by co-creating a reality with theirs. It is a power that comes with a big responsibility, as evidenced by the horrible reality we have co-created thus far. Let us change our frequency by first being grateful of the little things.
Happy New Year!
A few days after the full moon, on December 29th, Venus will enter Sagittarius and join forces with Moon in Leo to receive the New Year with jollity and freedom, in spite of Sun transiting over Capricorn. Venus will leave the broodiness of Scorpio with an added bonus: Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, will begin to move direct the day after, on December 30th. Just wonderful astrology for the end of the year!
Always Love. 🌹🙏💖
